Examen BJCP 2025

Also, just to be clear. Everyone will get their deposits back. They are deposits, after all.

I spent too much time on some of the questions and didn’t finish on my first attempt. I did the second attempt quicker and I finished all 180 questions, and passed. No studying in between attempts.

Muahahaha! You bastards thought I didn’t have it in me! You thought I forgot about it!
(None of you said that and I almost did)
But I passed!

Now if you ever need to know how to compare Cal Common or Dark Mild to anything, I am your man. I can tell you they are both lighter in color than your darkest secrets, and taste better too. Beyond that, I will point you to the immensely helpful Compare-o-matic that Riccardo posted a link to. It knows everything you forgot about beer (thanks @Riccardo !)

That’s great!! Could you three send me a screenshot of the confirmation, please? Thanks!

Really happy it helped, Sam

@Vincent_Roy how many complete vs non-complete exams as of today?

8 from the club (of the people who have participated in this group) by my count. 9 with @GBarberino who is already a judge and so doesn’t need the test.

Ok, tonight I tried to judge two cream ales, my own and my friend’s, which ended up very difficult to do, according to BJCP standards. Yes, there was some judging bias, considering I was judging my beer and his. BUT, I tried to judge impartially, using the BJCP score sheet. Amazing judging experience, but a very tough one! I would suggest, we make a BJCP study session only judging one type of beer, to be able to judge partially! If anybody from this group is willing and available for such tasting, please let me know, especially if you guys don’t mind travelling to Joliette for a session, I’ll be happy to host!

Hi guys!

I was on the road, thinking and I had an idea. I’d like to give you guys a little tasting challenge for the long weekend to get out of your comfort zone.

  1. Take a drink that you like and drink ofter, like coffee, tea, milk, whatever and try to analyze is as if you were judging a beer. Aroma, flavor, mouthfeel, even color if you want. No need to give a score.

  2. Do the same thing with a drink you don’t often drink or don’t like that much.

  3. Using a “mindfulness” approach, drink some beer, but I want you to go deep and analyze everything it does to you body. What natural reaction in your mouth, digestive path, on your nervous system, even emotionnal and of course mouthfeel. No bad answer, just trying to push our senses. And who knows that might make us discover something about our tasting system.

You are welcome to share the results here if you want. I would be nice to see what people find out!

Cheers!

Hi. Writing from Edmonton for the Alberta Beer Awards

I did 2 on 3 for the challenge. Here are my notes :

  1. McDonalds Coffee with cream and sugar

Aroma : roasted hazzelnut with a touch of sweetness and licorice finish. Medium-high coffee with a punch of acidity. I can smell the plastic lid of the coffee too

Flavor : Lacking some punch/flavor. Light cream/milk. Medium low sweetness with a chocolatey finish, lasting, pleasant. Cream hides the acidity. Light nutty flavor. Medium-low coffee flavor

Mouthfeel : Light astringency at the end. Medium creaminess. Warm.

  1. Nothing sorry!

  2. First smell, automatically saying “hmmm”. Feeling freshness, lemony. Coconut, making me think about ripe fruits.

Tasting : Cold on my lips, then in the throat. Onctuous on the palate and front of tongue. Carbonation stinging on the tongue, and hops burning a little in the back of the palate (soft part). Keeping it in my mouth make mes pucker. I can feel the cold when it drop in my stomach, pleasant feeling. A little pressure coming back up, with a light sting. Little burp (sorry lol). More flavor when I exhale from the nose and when I move my tongue in my mouth up/down. I think I’m pushing air from my mouth into my nose this way. Light acidity balanced with the cold temperature. Sip give a warming/calming sensation.
