Examen BJCP 2025

Happy to see all of you attending! We’ll be a good amount of people. With the music and everything, please try to stay alert to follow instructions so we can hear/understand each other and keep a bit of order to our session. It’s a first time for me so we’ll go with the flow

Please make sure to pay for the samples before leaving! We’ll try to get us a deal for small samples that will be fair to us and to our host. We don’t need much beer to judge it, but they still need to make a bit of money with the table they reserve for us.

Feel free to grab a pint and chat afterwards  I probably will!

Unfortunately I can’t make it after all. Enjoy the beers, and I will be there next time!

I found this cheat sheet. It helps put words to the characteristics of a beer. I hope it helps someone.

Désolé, je ne serai pas disponible jeudi pour vous rejoindre. C’est dommage, j’ai beaucoup appréciée la dernière séance.

Au plaisir,

Kurt

Thanks to everybody that showed up last night! It was a good time despite (or perhaps because of) having to judge challenging categories.

For everybody participating, a couple reminders:

  • Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for the 13th of August, location TBD
  • Everyone needs to take the online exam by the end of July. Just to give us an idea of where we all stand in terms of prep.
  • If you haven’t yet made a deposit for the test ($40), you can still do so. Interac transfer to treasurer@montrealers.ca.

If there are any doubts, questions, comments, ideas please comment here or shoot me a message.

Just a suggestion: for the August meeting, I think it would be interesting to judge 3 beers from the same category. I know it might be a challenge that the brewery actually has three of the same type of beers on tap but we might get lucky with lagers or stouts

Hello! Is it far too late to join at this stage? I am a certified BJCP, I’ve judged 5 comps and 2 BOS. I am approaching the point where I have enough points to qualify for National, but I’ll need a higher test score (I have a 71 and need an 80+). I’d be happy to help mentor if that’s helpful. Once I’ve moved into my new house, I’d be happy to host some folks for a judging session.

Not at all. Send me your email address and I’ll keep you in the loop.

Guys, it’s important to send your deposit right now. We are over 12 on the list of interested people so we might have to deny some entrance.

We will refund all deposits from people who can’t have a spot, or course!

And it’s in the BJCP rules that, as the exam organiser, I cannot give priority to specifis people (like club members) after the exam has been on the BJCP schedule. I will follow the rules, so go go go!

@GBarberino we cannot promess a spot with the current list, but I’d encourage to follow Jesse’s instruction (send a deposit and do the online exam before August 3rd) because the online exam deadline may open a few spots.

Thank you!

Just passed my BJCP online exam. not going to lie, the Beer Compare-O-Matic was a great help for some of the questions.

Me too! Good work! Didn’t know that tool existed, it would have made the non-stop comparisons between Foreign extra and Irish stout and between Cali Common and everything else a lot easier. haha

The test has shown up on the BJCP website!

Lol, you’re so right! Never had to compare California Common with so many other beers!

Hi guys,

We have currently 12 deposits for the 12 spots of the exam. I cannot garantee rooms for more, but we still have the deadline for the online exam (August 3rd) where things could move around.

So, if you haven’t, I’d still recommend sending your deposits to be next in line. You will be reimbursed if you can’t have a spot, of course.

There are some cases where the BJCP can allow to open some extra spots on an exam, over 12. If we have an issue, I’ll contact them to see what is possible.
